Wednesday, February 9th, 2011

Next Wednesday meeting will be a bit later than the normal schedule, on Wednesday, February 9th. The paper this time will be about standard settings. The paper is available online and is completely free:
http://www.ealta.eu.org/documents/resources/FK_second_doctorate.pdf

Of course not all of it will be discussed, although if someone wants to read the entire book, he or she can feel free, especially with the postponed meeting. The part is chose is 2.2. (pp. 39-60) containing an illustrative example of standard settings and the problem with judgments in particular. I chose this part of the book because I find interesting the problems arising in setting cut scores in achievement test related with the judgments. However, the accent would be on particular part of this paragraph - 2.2.2.3. (pp. 50-60). This part is about a new measure of the intra-judge consistency suggested and developed by the author, the misplacement index (MPI). A theoretical background on the idea of the index is provided and an example of its application. Since recently the software for calculating MPI is available and can be obtained for free from the following link:
http://www.ealta.eu.org/documents/resources/MPI-package.zip

If someone is not aware what kind of furry animals the standard settings and the cut scores in particular are, he or she can have a look on Chapter 1.
See you in Roxie bar on Wednesday, February 9th!
